The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Comes After Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the requirement for a more defined vision.

The president noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Hires

The news echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full text from the president's memo:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to come.

David

Experience of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a early access event. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Face the competition with unique powers, stakes, and tests that change every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and trust your squad can secure victory? The decision is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect further news as development progresses.
